A skin tag is a skin-coloured fleshy growth with a smooth or wrinkled texture, and can vary in size from a few milimetres to a couple of inches. Some tags can resemble a pearl when viewed under a microscope ,while others have a more irregular appearance.
Skin tags are not contagious or malignant, in fact they usually completely harmless. Nor are they related to warts or caused by the HPV virus. However, they are not considered to be aesthetically pleasing, particularly when located around the eyes, on the neck or similarly visible areas. Also, if the tag or tags grow larger, as sometimes occurs, there is the risk catching in clothing or on jewellery, resulting in pain and inflammation.
How does skin tag removal involve?
Various methods can be used for the removal of skin tags. We do not recommend following the more traditional treatments, such as the use of apple cider vinegar, lemon juice or tea tree oil, as these have been known to cause irritation.
