Bright, white teeth are a modern beauty essential. Today, anyone and everyone in the public eye – from actors, musicians and models through to social media stars, politicians and high-profile businessmen – can be seen to have an impeccably white smile.
As we age, our teeth darken and start to lose the white enamel of their youth. Add lifestyle and diet to the mix, such as smoking and drinking tea, coffee, colas and fruit juices, and teeth become stained more quickly and start to look dull, all of which can add years to your appearance.
What is Teeth Whitening?
Teeth Whitening is a process that lightens the colour of your teeth, restoring their youthful brightness and whiteness. As everyone’s teeth are unique with different natural shades of white or cream, the results will vary from one person to the next. For those who are good candidates for teeth whitening, the procedure can significantly lighten the colour of their teeth by up to eight shades.
Who is a good candidate for Teeth Whitening?
Not everyone is a good candidate for teeth whitening procedures. If, for example, your teeth are exceptionally sensitive or you have extensive dental restorations such as crowns or bridges, it may be advisable to opt for veneers instead. What’s more, if you have dental health issues then these will need to be corrected before proceeding with any Teeth Whitening procedure.
Your dental surgeon will be able to advise on the best option for your individual case when you come in for a consultation.
What are the different options for Teeth Whitening?
At Cocoona, there are two different types of Teeth Whitening options available; In-Office Whitening or At-Home Whitening.
In-Office Teeth Whitening is the best option for people in a hurry who want ultra-fast results without the need for fiddly trays that have to be worn at home for a period of time. Cocoona patients can choose from the following techniques:
If you’re looking for a cost-effective route to a gleaming smile and you’re not in a rush for the full results to show, then the Cocoona Home Whitening procedure may be for you. Home Whitening enables you to whiten your teeth at home under prescription and carefully supervised by your dentist for the best and safest results.
You will be given lightweight trays that can be filled with whitening gel, which will need to be worn for between 30 minutes every day to overnight, depending on the system opted for. These trays, which are as light and comfortable to wear as possible, will need to be worn for a period of between two to three weeks until the desired shade of whiteness is achieved. The trays are designed to fit closely around the teeth so that the gel comes into contact with all of the tooth surfaces without touching the gums. Depending on your individual requirement and the system opted for, you will either have trays made to measure for you or disposable, pre-filled trays that will adapt to the shape of your dental imprint.
How long does Teeth Whitening last?
On average, Teeth Whitening lasts for up to three years. You can ensure the effect lasts for as long as possible by avoiding use of tobacco products and not eating and drinking items that will stain your teeth on a regular basis.
How do I care for my teeth after a Teeth Whitening procedure?
Following a teeth whitening treatment, your tooth enamel will be porous and so it is very important to avoid all dark-colored foods and beverages for at least 48 hours. This includes tomato-based sauces, coffee, tea, cola and red grape beverages. Otherwise, you should practice good dental hygiene, brushing your teeth twice per day and flossing regularly.
Your dental surgeon will advise you on any special instructions that may be required to maintain the results of your Teeth Whitening procedure.
How much does Teeth Whitening cost?
For an accurate cost assessment, you will need to book an initial consultation with one of our dental surgeons. The cost of Teeth Whitening varies depending on the type of procedure you choose; for example, In Office Teeth Whitening will cost more than the At Home Whitening alternatives. Your dental surgeon will be able to give you an exact quote in line with your requirement and individual situation.
