Invisalign is an innovative system clinically proven to be effective in correcting a range of alignment issues, even for more complex cases. More than 6.8 million people worldwide – including 1.6 million teenagers – have used the system successfully over the past twenty years.
Invisalign is virtually invisible, being made from clear plastic. This cleat plastic is highly flexible, which increases the comfort factor, as does the fact that each system is designed specially to fit the unique contours of your teeth and the shape of your gum line. What’s more, Invisalign is designed to be worn for a minimum of 20 hours per day, meaning they can be easily removed and put back in so you can clean and floss your teeth, eat any of the foods you like and even play contact sports! In short, Invisalign is a million miles away from the more traditional metal style of retainer.
What is Invisalign?
Invisalign uses gentle and constant controlled force to correct different types of misalignment, from overbites and underbites to overcrowding and gaps. Removable and discreet, the Invisalign system consists of custom-made aligners made from a patented clear flexible thermoplastic material. In addition, a range of small tooth-coloured attachments designed to address specific alignment issues can be added in line with the individual’s requirement if it is deemed to be necessary to get the desired results.
The Invisalign system uses unique technology designed to give dental specialists the ability to program the precise movement of each tooth at exactly the right time for the best possible results. Your dentist will create a unique treatment plan that addresses your individual issues and efficiently moves your teeth from where they are now to where they should be – painlessly and as quickly as possible.
Throughout the duration of the treatment, which usually lasts from 12 to 18 months, progress will be closely monitored and adjustments made where necessary. You will need new aligners on a regular basis to maintain the level of progress required; your dentist will advise how often you can expect to do so in line with your individual case.
Who is a good candidate for Invisalign?

Will I feel any pain with Invisalign?
You may initially feel some initial discomfort for a few days after a new set of aligners are fitted; this usually manifests as a feeling of pressure on your teeth rather than actual pain. This is completely normal and a positive sign that your Invisalign system is doing its job and gradually moving you towards being able to show off a truly stunning smile!
How long does Invisalign take to get results?
Invisalign treatment plans generally take between 12 to 18 months depending on the individual case, the nature of the correction and your specific set of requirements. Your dental specialist will be able to advise in more detail when you come in for a consultation.
Will I have to wear my Invisalign aligners all the time?
Invisalign aligners can be easily taken out and put back in as and when you when you need to do so, for example when brushing and flossing your teeth, eating, whilst playing contact sports and for special occasions. However, you must ensure to wear your aligners for a minimum of 20 hours per day to get the results you want.
Are the results of Invisalign permanent?
As is the case for anyone who has had any form of orthodontic treatment, a retainer worn at night is often recommended to ensure that your teeth stay in the new position; this is because teeth can naturally shift over time, although this is a very gradual process. Your dentist will be able to advise if this is a likely requirement for your individual case.
How much does Invisalign cost?
For an accurate cost assessment, you will need to book an initial consultation with one of our dental specialists. While the cost of Invisalign is around the same as more traditional braces, each patient is unique with different requirements and so the treatment plan and associated costs will vary from case to case. Your dentist will be able to give you an exact quote in line with your requirement and individual situation.
